Business Email Compromise

Business email compromise (BEC) is a type of cybercrime that involves the unauthorized access and use of a business email account.

This can occur through a variety of methods, such as phishing scams, malware attacks, or social engineering.

Once an attacker has access to a business email account, they can use it to send fraudulent emails to the company's clients or employees, often requesting sensitive information or requesting payment. These emails may appear to be legitimate, making it difficult for recipients to identify that they are part of a scam.

BEC attacks can have serious consequences for businesses, including financial losses, damage to reputation, and legal issues.

To protect against BEC, it is important for businesses to implement strong security measures, such as two-factor authentication, and to educate employees about the risks of email scams.

By taking steps to secure email accounts and being vigilant about identifying potential scams, businesses can protect themselves from the threat of BEC and the serious consequences it can bring.
